I finally blocked Threads from federating with goblin.band.

I acknowledge, 100%, Facebook's right to join the fediverse and do whatever their want with the open standards that powers it. That's why they are open, they can be used even by people we don't like.

I also acknowledge our rights to not wanting to have anything facebook-related in our neighborhood. So yeah, goblin.band and Threads won't be playing together.

@javi but, do you recognize that your users might want to engage with folks over there?

(To be sure, it’s your right to decide as an instance not to allow it, but I always want to make sure actual end users are part of the decision when so often they’re notably absent.)

Oh they are not "my users", I'm not a company, I'm happy for everyone to be around in my server, but I'm also happy if they don't want to stay if they don't like it. I have no intention to change what's basically a moral decision because some people may have a different set of morals.

I'm not defederating Goblin, the project, I'm defederating
Goblin.band, my server. If someone wants to use Goblin and engage with threads they can always set up their own instance, or maybe one day, picking one with no moral issues on federating with the great Satan 😀

What's more: Goblin was started with the firm conviction that the future of social media, or at least the future of social media that's not a soul crushing machine, needs to be human-based and not corporation-based. So putting a wall between us and the biggest corporation who had brought more harm to the entire internet seems like the logical step.

@javi sure, like I said, I’m not opposed to the decision at all. I just want to make sure users are considered, as all too often they’re not.
