Would you want Facebook to know if you visited a suicide hotline?
Our investigation from June 2023 found that over 30 suicide hotline websites sent visitor data to Facebook. That story has now become a finalist for a NIHCM award!

@themarkup I don’t use Facebook. I don’t plan to start
@FaithinBones welp, if mastodon.social does not de-federate #Threads your data will go to #Meta, whether you have an account there or not. #fedipact #BlockThreads #StopMeta @themarkup
@stargazer @FaithinBones @themarkup I don’t use Threads either
@stargazer oh quite the contrary, it IS what Fediverse was meant to be.
At its core Fediverse was programmed to put content out there without the control of authors. I criticize them for those design decisions, but they were made, and it is what it is.
Fediverse was designed so that all content is fair game. You don’t even need to interact with Threads for them to get your content–ActivityPub will happily broadcast it into their datastores.
It’s critical that users realize that if they want to keep using Fediverse.
@volkris
Exactly - unless of course the instance blocks threads.net. Every #fediadmin should let their user base decide or at least let know about this, so that the users can make an informed decision to stay or change to an instance of their liking . Unless that happened they should #block #threads. It has to be #opt-in. #Consent matters. #fedipact #StopMeta
