US pol: What is right?

Judge Merchan has postponed sentencing Trump for violating campaign financing laws by hiding his manipulation of media through secret payments before the 2016 election. The consensus has emerged that this may be a 'good thing' politically speaking for those who care about laws applying to everyone including the powerful.

Any sentence that he choose would dominate the news cycle and cause controversy and chaos. No one is looking forward to it. 1/

I think a lot of it had to do with the #scotus of it all, too. They've *completely* done away with even the faintest lofty notion that "no one is above the law," especially when it comes to tfg.

And they worded their decision so that hicks' testimony could be ruled inadmissable. So I think Merchan chose to keep the case under his control, instead of letting it get to the purview of the #supremeCourtesans, where they could toss it completely & 'vindicate' trump

@Incognitim what? No. If you read the SCOTUS ruling it says the exact opposite, that everyone is absolutely bound by law, and it explicitly lays out that Trump has to continue through the court case.

You say they 've completely done away with even The faintest notion that no one is above the law but the case itself talked about people being bound by law.

Whoever told you otherwise is lying to you.

@volkris

So you're calling Justice Sotomayor a liar? 🤣

"Today’s decision to grant former Presidents criminal immunity reshapes the institution of the Presidency. It makes a mockery of the principle, foundational to our Constitution and system of Government, that no man is above the law.”
