This article reminded me of an MSNBC broadcast I was watching earlier this evening. In it, they were speculating about why Trump continues have the support he does despite these horrendous lies he spouts on a routine basis. It's because this is all seen as normal for him. The American public has just come to expect him to lie. IOW, that's become the norm, so why should anyone be bothered by it. People have just stopped caring. We've literally just tuned them out. And when people stopped caring, that handed Trump a big fat permission slip to lie all he wants. The bigger problem is that, to this day, he has suffered no consequences for his lies. It should be obvious to everyone by now that the justice system in this country is severely broken. He should have been made to be held accountable years ago. And because he hasn't now we have this seriously eff'd up situation where a pathological liar might be our next president.
@PDFlynn You're missing the important part, though. It's not about the justice system: we don't need to lock people up for lies. Particularly politicians.
The question you should be asking is, why don't people care? Why does the general public just not care about Trump lying? They know he's lying, and they don't care, and why is that?
It's because the institution that is government has lost so much of the faith of the general population that no one cares, and how did that come to be? How did the government fail the people so badly that they don't even care if politicians are overtly lying?
So this isn't about the justice system. This is about the interaction between the government and its people. This is about a government that failed so badly that the people just don't care anymore.
This is the people responding to a failing government.
You have to approach it from that direction to try to figure out solutions.
