I swear, techbros must all drive cars without break lights and never use their turn signals :blobcatupsidedown:

Remember that Boeing thing where a “software malfunction” effectively caused not one, but two planes full of people to die?

Yeah, this crap isn't going to increase road safety, it's purely here to be a tracking device. Even self driving cars don't need it, and it can only introduce more issues. :blobcat_thisisfine:

@Linux_in_a_Bit remember that the plane full of people died because the pilots violated procedures. The human factor was key to that tragedy.

And there are parallels with this.

@volkris @Linux_in_a_Bit ((I'm pretty sure you're talking about a different crash? AFAIK both MCAS crashes are unlikely to end differently even if you cut out the stab trim early and never reinstate it.))

@Parnikkapore No the flight data recorder showed that pilots regained stable flight once they turned off stab trim as per per standard operating procedure, but for some reason they turned it back on, and that action on the part of the pilots led to the tragedy.

@Linux_in_a_Bit

@volkris @Linux_in_a_Bit Ah, I understand what you're getting at.

Going back to the original topic, my understanding from that article is that V2P is mainly to make pedestrians unambiguously visible to (automated systems on) vehicles, esp in dodgy situations (raining at night). Why this couldn't be accomplished with a dumb anonymous transmitter or a beacon I do not know (rogue beacons in speed bumps?)

V2I should be mainly making traffic infra more machine-readable, which is relatively fine.

@volkris @Linux_in_a_Bit Actually, this seems to all be simultaneously less ambitious and more buzzwordy than I thought :breathe:
