I bridged early on to #BlueSky and have some followers because of it. I will not deactivate that & throw them to the dogs w/o VERY good reason.
I don't know anything about this controversy. Please provide more substance, because I don't jump at every social media rumor without sources.
* Who is this person? Who is the other person? (I have read neither of their feeds.)
* Why should I be afraid of them and not simply avoid giving them oxygen and/or counter any misinformation with facts?
* Why should I abandon my BlueSky followers to unchallenged misinformation?
* Please provide links & sources.
I do believe there's a time for blocking, but I never do so pre-emptively or en masse, simply because of the rumor mill. I've seen too many good accounts (mine included) falsely accused & made the target of blocking campaigns on various social media platforms, due to nothing more than some random account posting, "You should all block these people."
Reminder:
Both times Trump won, it was because the left allowed ourselves to be divided (Hillary/Bernie in 2016, then Biden/Gaza in 2024) and to be manipulated into not voting at all BY SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS.
When the big #BlueSky migration began, I warned everyone I could, to come over to #Mastodon instead. MAGA money is funding a crypto queen, who is controlling a social media platform, and Elon allowed them to solicit new users unhindered during the big migration off #Xitter. The MAGA millionaires will want a return on their investments sometime, that's inevitable.
What could possibly go wrong there?🙄
But imo, allowing ourselves to be further divided and abandoning so many on the left to nothing but misinformation can only hurt us all. We NEED to keep connected so we can provide facts to counter their misinformation and voter suppression campaigns.
@AnneTheWriter1 Well that's not true.
It's not that the left was divided but rather that the left came together around clearly flawed candidates.
IF ONLY the left was divided about Harris maybe we would have considered choosing someone who could actually win. And that's what I was yelling about at the time. But no, the left got in line behind this person with a terrible track record and terrible prospects for the election.
It was similar with Clinton.
It has nothing to do with MAGA or social media campaigns. There's no need to sink to those conspiracy theories.
The Democratic party simply insisted on a garbage candidate, so the party got the result it signed up for. We should hold the party accountable for that failure instead of excusing them by talking about these conspiracies.
@Quantillion No, at this point the Democratic party is not really focused on any policy at all. Harris was rightly criticized for not talking about policy, she didn't seem able to talk about policy when she was repeatedly asked about it, interviewed about it, invited to talk about it, etc.
Like I said, garbage candidate. Not garbage policy because the candidate was so garbage that she couldn't even talk about policy.
