I only recently noticed that "semantics" is a plural noun but "semantic" is always only an adjective in normal usage. There is no singular noun "semantic" -- at least not that I've seen used.

How odd. I guess "semantics" is a collective noun referring to a collection of things to all of which the adjective "semantic" can be naturally applied... maybe?

@kfogel off the top of my head I think the majority of the time I hear the word semantics it's referring to the topic, singular topic, like how physics is not really a collection of things.
