The key is that the American left needs to talk not about opposing getting rid of murderers and drug dealers but about the processes by which we do that fairly and legally.
And they have to talk about it in a coherent, accessible, and most importantly, accurate way.
The #MAGA crowd rose in an environment where the left stopped addressing them and explaining the real answers to their concerns, instead dismissing them out of hand... and giving those votes and minds over to the likes of #Trump.
The left has so much of civics on their side, but they continue to ignore that opportunity, allowing the right to march forward in ignorance.
Firstly, to emphasize it, we can show Americans that the legal process can support the cause of dealing with rapists.
But back to my response:
In a way that's my point.
Americans don't care... even though caring would get them closer to their goals. The point is to communicate to Americans why they should care.
The failure of the left goes hand in hand with Americans not caring about legal process. That needs to change, and it can change, if only the left would bother.
@realcaseyrollins
You have to know with certainty that someone *is* a rapist before you "deal with them". That's what due process is *for*.

Hmmm. I actually would disagree with this statement for a very practical reason.
Due process is about giving people the opportunities for defense that the consensus has judged to be right. It's really more about maintaining an orderly system without surprises that serve society, to maintain the perceived legitimacy of the system to avoid the alternative, anarchy and vigilantism.
Due process is for being able to tell other members of society that the right steps have been taken so that other members don't need to get violent on their own.
That's the real danger of the way some people, lately US conservatives, undermine the concept of due process: they are endangering themselves when they don't understand how important it really is to their own safety, and to the communities and society that they value so strongly.
@volkris
What's wrong with vigilantism from the perspective that truth in justice doesn't matter?

No they don't. Americans don't care about the legal process of dealing with rapists. If that want to be pedantic about processes, maybe focus on things that Americans don't support so overwhelmingly.
