The justices will soon decide whether to relieve the #Trump admin from the trial court’s order halting the expulsions. Whether the govt has complied w/the order isn’t directly before #SCOTUS. But whether the Court can trust the govt’s representations during such quickly unfolding litigation is—& the justices have every reason not to.

@Nonilex That's not really how the US system works, though.

It's not so much a question of whether this court can trust the government's representations as much as it's about judging whether the lower court properly or improperly trusted them. This court rules based on the record before it, judging the lower court.

That's how the appeals process works in the US.
