Planning to formally break apt-get and apt-cache in May by bumping them to more modern behaviours.

Expecting 99% of scripts to continue working as before.

After that, specify -o APT::Version=0 to continue receiving the legacy LTS interface (in a manner that works with older apt versions).

This will cause warnings at some point, but possibly not in 2026 but in 2027 May :D
