We've just decided to take a short beach vacation in Cancun instead of a longer road trip to the US for our Christmas holiday.
Every year we spend hundreds (thousands?) of dollars in the US driving in from Canada and shopping/eating out. This is the first time in the last 11-12 years we haven't been to the US in a whole calendar year. That even even includes COVID.
The current president has done so much damage to the reputation of the US. It will take years for them to recover and draw tourists back, long after he's gone (in my humble opinion)
@sand yep, and there is even polling and economic data to support that. The reputational damage is real, and it will hurt the US economy.
On the other hand, there are an awful lot of people in the US who are willing to make that trade for what they see as security and cultural problems of international visitation.
I'm not among them, but I understand them, and I wish they didn't feel that way.
