Burning bridges is easier than building them.

It saddens me to see highly popular posts on how to block all Bluesky users in Mastodon (blanket-disabling BridgyFed, a project I am enthusiastic about).

@flancian the social layer can be extremely messy and this whole thing concerning a certain new bsky account is about as messy as it can possibly get.

@abesamma oh! I think I missed that, which new account?

Update: I checked the Bluesky timeline, I think you mean the ICE one? Yep, they suck.

@abesamma Blocking a whole network because we don't like one account seems a bit weird to me though. I don't want to be cynical but I get the feeling some people were itching for a reason to block Bluesky and ICE provided that.

I dislike ICE heavily (and this is an understatement), but if nothing else them being on a common network that is *not* X provides many of us an opportunity to tell them they should reconsider their alignment, rot in hell or whatever else we want to communicate.

@flancian I agree. I too am surprised that people want to block the entire network because of this. Having said that however, some people have fleshed out their reasons a little more, saying blue sky has demonstrated a pattern of behavior that indicates that they're morally and ethically compromised by VC funding. For example they mentioned that blue sky has centralized moderation, they're not truly dedicated to decentralization as a matter of principle, and this ice thing was the last straw.

To put it simply you should not be surprised because so many people just look for drama, they just look for things to rebel against, it counts to them as sticking it to the man somehow.

This childish attitude has been very very common on this platform for so long. It's rebelliousness without a cause.

You should not be surprised because this platform is just full of those people, and it always has been as long as I've been watching it.
