@CardboardRobot nah, The strategy of asking a person to actually back up the claims they are making.
@obeto@mas.to Oh I am indeed very careful about what I am saying!
And you're just factually wrong. The things you are saying here are not factually true. And again, I am very careful about what I am saying, I mean it very carefully, when I am saying that your comment just now? Is false.
It's factually false.
I don't care about your patience to be honest. This is social media, so none of this actually matters, but I am happy to call you out for saying factually untrue things.
I'm happy to discuss this with you so we can resolve the falsities that you are projecting on to the platform but I am mainly assuming that you are not going to be engaging with them.
But I would love to be proven wrong.
@CardboardRobot I'm not interested in trying to prove other people's claims.
If this is your claim I want to see you bring the receipts.
If you're not interested in backing your claim, well I will consider that meaningful.
@CardboardRobot again, the problem is I would like to see it for myself because I just don't trust sources posted to social media since they are so often flat out false.
@obeto@mas.to but you're still up against democracy.
You and I might both hate the way that most people think, but we can't escape that if we are to live in a democratic representative government.
I would say that you do care an iota for what the other people do because they vote and as a democracy we count those votes.
You can say fuck them in their feelings, but the problem is that If we are going to be a democracy they and their feelings do contribute to the future of our governance structure.
You can't just discount that.
Again, I repeat, if we are going to be a democracy.
It's the age old issue that the problem with giving people a say in their government is the people.
@CardboardRobot Oh gosh, that report had so many red flags with the way it chopped up quotations.
I really want to see some direct sourcing, and it was a really big red flag that I didn't see any link from that website to the primary source.
I'm not saying the website was wrong or the reporting was wrong. I'm saying there were some big red flags to doubt it though as I didn't see any links where I could verify what it was claiming.
To be clear I think that Desantis is that the point of his campaign where he would absolutely start saying crazy things trying to get attention, so I wouldn't be surprised, I just want to go to the source to verify what he actually said.
@CardboardRobot no not disputing, but the first mainly, since that was such a striking accusation
@katchwreck Well that's not true.
A whole lot of science funding is not only separate from military spending but actually looking for military spending but not getting it.
@CardboardRobot citation?
@ArtSmart that is an interesting point!
@ArtSmart no, The matter of law being cited to keep Trump off the ballot has nothing to do with the wording of the oath.
@obeto@mas.to Oh I hear so many mainstream conservatives all getting behind exactly that feeling literally every single day.
Me I don't care. I would not vote for Trump, it's none of my business.
But SO MANY Republicans and conservatives are vocally shouting that they would, and they are answering posters questions saying they would, and that is problematic.
Conway is totally in the tank for Trump. You can assume that everything she says in every interview is about leveraging the data she has to try to pump him up even farther.
The problem is, she's probably right.
@obeto@mas.to Well I think the question is whether you want to make any progress or not.
I am not kidding you. That argument doesn't resonate with an awful lot of people.
So if you just want to yell into the wind, fine! Hey that's what I do here on social media! If that's your goal, go for it!
However, if you actually want to make a difference then you need to recognize that that argument does not resonate with so many Americans.
I'm not telling you what to do or what not to do. You do what you want to do. But if you want to actually make a difference then you need to recognize what you're up against.
And it has nothing to do with the truth. It's all about what propaganda does and does not work.
@realcaseyrollins absolutely!
And it's really interesting, because you can look at how things like geometric balance influence human perception.
Fashion theory is absolutely a thing and academically it says a lot about how our brains are wired meanwhile practically it can give us a lot of hints as to how we might want to dress if we want to have certain impacts on others.
@vrruiz if he can't believe it's accidental then he's a fool.
Of course it can be accidental. It's, as he says, thematic, so it's not surprising at all that such language would be used against each other.
It's just really silly to make this kind of complaint.
I think the most pressing and fundamental problem of the day is that people lack a practically effective means of sorting out questions of fact in the larger world. We can hardly begin to discuss ways of addressing reality if we can't agree what reality even is, after all.
The institutions that have served this role in the past have dropped the ball, so the next best solution is talking to each other, particularly to those who disagree, to sort out conflicting claims.
Unfortunately, far too many actively oppose this, leaving all opposing claims untested. It's very regressive.
So that's my hobby, striving to understanding the arguments of all sides at least because it's interesting to see how mythologies are formed but also because maybe through that process we can all have our beliefs tested.
But if nothing else, social media platforms like this are chances to vent frustrations that on so many issues both sides are obviously wrong ;)
