@timo21 you don't understand the conservative position here.

They're not crying about free tampons. They are holding up free tampons as indicator that an official has lost their way, is out of touch with the mainstream, is misspending money, whatever.

You misunderstand the argument of a mainstream conservative.

It has nothing to do with undeserving people at all. It has to do with what they see as politicians not serving or representing their constituencies.

@realcaseyrollins I think everybody in this race, presidents and vice presidents, are all fairly hated even though they may be loved by a core base.

It's similar to saying that Trump must not be that hated if he keeps getting the Republican nominee.

Oh they are hated, it's just that they also have a core base that supports them.

@donm I mean that's pretty much where I am personally where I'm going to vote for my dog because he's more qualified to be president than what either of the major parties is putting forward.

I've been begging either party to put forward someone worth voting for, Republicans declined first, and it looks like Democrats are going to put forward a ridiculous nominee as well.

The only way we can encourage the parties to nominate better people is to refuse to vote for either of their their ridiculous choices.

@nosmaharba That's not what's happening at all.

You're just buying into the propaganda.

@jcclement@mastodon.social It won't though.

The bill is based on lies, propaganda from Biden, where he leaned into a public that's been misled to propose solutions that won't work for problems that don't exist.

You talk about wannabe autocrats like Trump, and that's okay but this situation is about Biden himself exceeding the authority of the president and the courts calling him out on it, once again.

Presidents like Biden can't legally use their powers the way he wants to. That's the core of this whole thing, but social media is just full of misrepresentations of what's going on, just a whole lot of people parenting the autocratic message that folks like him want to spread.

It's exactly backwards. It's orwellian. These are the times we live in.

@bhasic That's pretty much exactly what I'm saying.

People keep mistaking the ones who are doing oppressing

@Methylcobalamin I can clarify that it's really pretty normal, so it's it's something that a person would think it's weird, it's a reflection of a person being in an echo chamber and not realizing how the rest of the world works.

@Richard for decades now I've been describing him as a bimbo, and I stand by that description.

The guy is just really really dumb, doesn't know what he's talking about, he's self-absorbed in his own little world, and it's just pathetic.

I don't know anything about his sexuality nor do I care, but he's just a bimbo.

@dever

@Methylcobalamin from what I've seen the blowback is pretty serious, people making fun of people trying to engage the weird attack.

Just makes them sound out of touch.

You think this is weird? Well you should probably get out more. That sounds more of a you problem.

@bhasic and I suspect you would appreciate not being punished for that, in other words, you're saying don't tread on me

@dalfen I mean, I'm sorry no one in your family made money? I don't know what you're trying to get out of that.

Sounds like y'all probably should have.

@anonimno but we need to call her out for being populist to try to encourage the Democratic party to nominate someone different.

Democrats don't need to nominate someone awful. Looks like they want to at this point, so we can rise up with our voices to encourage Democrats not to go that direction.

@jcclement@mastodon.social but it's not, and the system was specifically designed to make sure it wouldn't be so much greater with the president.

The president president has to answer to the Congress under checks and balances. His impact is restrained on purpose. Mitigated on purpose. If only we would appreciate that system.

@Silba What specifically are you saying that I wrote that's not factual?

I try to cite sources, but if there's something in particular you think is not factual let me know so I can cite.

@BohemianPeasant

@jcclement@mastodon.social I mean, I wish independent voters cared more about the conflicts of interests of all of the representatives that they keep reelecting.

This isn't a trump thing. It's a governance thing. And we are apparently all okay with this nonsense going on because we keep voting for Representatives that promote it.

@ERBeckman disagree: democracy is always on the edge just by the nature of that system, so citizens will always have to be wondering about the maintenance of their governance.

@tzimmer_history

@kagan That's a pretty ironic title considering that the entire point of the Supreme Court ruling was to to restore Congressional authority.

@timo21 only if that's authorized by Congress, which it shouldn't be, which goes right back to the democratic process.

So don't elect representatives who would authorize such a thing.

So often in the US system people forget how important it is to hold their representatives accountable for their role.

This isn't about the Supreme Court or the presidency. This is about the people that we elect to Congress.

@Nonilex

SCOTUS v ethics

@maeve Well no, it's grounded in the concept of separation of powers.

Once you start intruding into the operation of the judicial branch the concept of independent judiciary is thrown aside. THAT is the corruption. After that wall is breached judges will have to be looking over their backs with every call they make worrying that they'll be punished by the other branches.

They won't be able to make calls respecting rights because of conflicts of interests.

In this case, sounds like the right-wing pundits are on the right side of political science.
