@dever honestly, a whole lot of companies are set to make profits off of the ruling because everyone knew the tariffs were illegal the whole time.
Everyone was just waiting for the court to point it out.
Part of the reason that the tariffs didn't have a bigger economic impact is because the big companies just kept on importing knowing that they would be paid back once the reality of the illegality was confirmed.
@stribeprogblog I'm guessing the moron doesn't even know what he's referring to because he's just that out of touch with reality.
He just says things to get in the headlines. And to appeal to his base. He's basically spinning a conspiracy theory.
Congress has enacted a few different laws that allow the president to impose tariffs. He was just such an idiot that he used one of the few laws that isn't actually available to him.
It's pretty complicated, but yeah, there are a few different laws that he could have used this whole time.
Meh, He's done plenty of impeachable stuff already, but the people we elect to Congress aren't particularly interested in impeaching him.
We need to stop reelecting these ineffective representatives. Basically, don't vote for any incumbents at all, because otherwise if we reelect them yet again we just fail to hold them accountable.
It's really not about Trump. It's about the representatives that we keep re-electing for some reason.
@wolfinpdx Well because it plays to his base.
Honestly this was completely expected. Trump runs on this ridiculous notion that everybody is against him so he's going to fight, and this ruling against him just plays into the conspiracy theory that he sells to his voters.
Yeah everyone's against him because they're all corrupt. Sure. I mean it's ridiculous, but that's how he got elected so he's going to keep saying it, and this ruling is just more fodder for him to score political points on.
It's just the next chapter in the pattern of his administration.
What a poor felon rich guy.
@kraks I think it's more that the different echo chambers have all made up their minds, so there's not much to talk about.
It's not that everybody accepts Trump. It's that everybody already knows what team they are on.
@CraigKendrickNZ nah.
Trump doesn't want to distract from the Supreme Court decision. His supporters are promoting the decision to score political points as saying that the whole world is against him and all that.
That's basically what he ran on, this idea that he was an outsider that would fight. So this Supreme Court decision is something he can hold up as more political point scoring.
@light nope!
That's the point, mainstream Republican line is that the Supreme Court keeps ruling against Trump because they are politicized.
That's the point, that both sides think they get ruled against. Both sides live in their own echo chambers with their own conspiracy theories.
@kevbob Republicans are already saying that, saying that the Court keeps really against Trump.
And remember, Trump is not a leader, he takes his talking points from Fox News, so he's just going to repeat whatever they say, like always.
Honestly, the Supreme Court rules against Trump a whole lot more than people have realized.
There's this dramatic story that they keep ruling for him, but when you read their actual opinions, they really rule against him pretty consistently because he's a moron.
In fact right now the Republican line is that Trump is being treated so unfairly by the Supreme Court because they keep rolling against him.
@paul The thing is, Trump seems so disconnected and oblivious that he doesn't really know what's going on.
He SHOULD have that blood pressure spike, but I think this is going to be yet another case where he doesn't even know that he should feel bad about it.
Yes, he will take credit for any stock market spike, and he'll Mumble his way through the explanation, and his supporters will buy it. Because that's just the fantasy world they are living in.
@jack can you cite any particular argument that AOC has given that would support that?
I mean, Vance is a charlatan, but he is really good at selling his snake oil.
It's sad-funny how both the left and the right think that #SCOTUS is corruptly ruling for the other side.
Republicans are saying that the Supreme Court ruled against Trump on the tariffs because they are playing politics so they can rule in his favor on other things.
@eriner How do you figure?
You have to view this in terms of performing for audiences, not any sort of legitimate congressional oversight.
#Bondi gave the administration's supporters exactly the performance they wanted to see. They want to see a wrestling match, so this administration gives it to them.
Meanwhile, Democrats get to score political points by pretending to be in opposition when really they aren't doing substantial things to oppose the administration. So they scored as well.
Pretty much all sides involved used this exchange for their own benefit, so why would they hold her in contempt? Everyone did exactly what they wanted to do to signal to their constituents. All of the politicians came out ahead.
Our fault for electing these jerks and continuing to reelect them.
@cwarzel.bsky.social I think you have it backwards.
So much of Internet culture is simply coming to terms with and reflecting broader society. It's recognizing that in broader society the solutions to these problems are nowhere on the horizon, so internet culture is the effect, not the cause.
@wjmaggos I strongly disagree.
AP being a push and subscription model is fundamentally and importantly different from RSS being a generally public pull model.
They are very different tools to solve very different problems.
@alisynthesis Well that's what her audience wanted to hear.
They like WWE wrestling matches, so she performed for them.
This administration is full of entertainers. They're not serious, they're just entertaining their audience.
Seems like you might be interested in why people voted for Trump so that we could avoid that happening in the future.
There are lessons to learn here.
In fact, I'd say that attitude really played into getting him elected!
How can you hope to oppose folks doing something you don't like if you're interested in knowing why they did it?
As they say, know your enemy.
I think the most pressing and fundamental problem of the day is that people lack a practically effective means of sorting out questions of fact in the larger world. We can hardly begin to discuss ways of addressing reality if we can't agree what reality even is, after all.
The institutions that have served this role in the past have dropped the ball, so the next best solution is talking to each other, particularly to those who disagree, to sort out conflicting claims.
Unfortunately, far too many actively oppose this, leaving all opposing claims untested. It's very regressive.
So that's my hobby, striving to understanding the arguments of all sides at least because it's interesting to see how mythologies are formed but also because maybe through that process we can all have our beliefs tested.
But if nothing else, social media platforms like this are chances to vent frustrations that on so many issues both sides are obviously wrong ;)
