It's a bummer that I can't follow people on mastodon.art from #qoto (and I assume they can't follow me). Not quite enough to make me migrate yet because I can at least subscribe to them.

@ezpy mastodon.art doesn't federate with qoto, because qoto "federates with instances that violate our ToS/CoC such as Gab, Kiwifarms.cc, freespeechextremist.com, etc."
As I understand it, "not federating" means:
- people on the different servers can't follow each other
- posts from one won't show up in the other's global timeline
You can still see posts on the other server by searching for hashtags, and you can still *subscribe* to people on the other one. I *think* this makes it impossible to have a conversation across non-federation border.
@peterdrake @ezpy that’s unfortunate—I wish we didn’t federate with those instances. Sounds like I might want to migrate too.
