devils advocate is intentionally taking an opposing position to argue from (can be useful)

deontology is making sure the constituent parts of something are themselves ethical :agummylamp:

i forget exactly how deontology handles this but virtue ethics are like a set of virtues and all actions must themselves be compatible with a virtuous person, while consequentialists only care about if mass murder will achieve their goal or not, and deontology is some radical centrist version where they track the whole action lineage like virtue ethicists do but they only care about if any particular action creates a duty violation
