Well, that was weird. My dock had stopped charging my laptop. I switched cables around and charged other things (my phone) just fine. Then I bypassed by dock; USBC straight from power to laptop. still no charge. I restarted exwm. Still no charge. So I shut down my computer, seeing if it would charge while it was off. Bingo! Then I restarted my machine. It kept charging! Was it the computers USBC failing to carry charge? Was it my Totu dock failing to paso the charge to the PC? Was it my custom power brick being too smart for its own good, failing to provide power? I'm not sure. But for sure, #NewYearVoodoo. I hope that's the last time I need to use that hashtag.
@picofarad that would make sense. I wonder what could have caused the driver "charged" flag to get stuck? Also, what's BMS? Bios?
@worldsendless battery management system.
And something dumb like the system tried to sleep right when it was changing state or something.
@picofarad like... pulling out the power immediately as I put the laptop to sleep? 🤦
@worldsendless usually laptops or whatever only charge to around 75% to prevent heat and prolong the life of the battery, so while you're using it the charger will be trickling power to the battery from time to time, if the system shut off during a transistion from charging to charged, there may be a bug where upon "turning back on" it gets stuck in that state.
If you notice it happening again, try and track down what happened prior. Hopefully it was just a fluke!
@worldsendless BMS/driver sort of issue i bet, got stuck at "fully" charged and never cleared the flag allowing charging again. I haven't personally seen it but i've heard of it maybe two times.
