I see there is a #MusicMonday hashtag which is perfect because I was going to ask about music anyway.
What music helps you focus on work tasks like #programming, #reading, or #writing? I've tried a lot of different things but I think my favorites so far are the Coding Mode playlist on Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DX5trt9i14X7j?si=d753e5c4bd5c49c7) and Brain.fm (https://www.brain.fm/).
@Mgellis Mine are kind of all over the place too, but there are definitely certain genres that help me concentrate. Usually it has to be without vocals or else I get distracted by listening to the lyrics.
@wxheather I like the LoFi Girl playlists and Dark Wave playlists (different options and owners)
@wxheather I'm a Spotify streamer who gravitates to prog rock.
I'm a civil CAD designer and spend my days drawing pretty pictures and the music helps keep the distractions at bay.
When I'm training on my race bike and intend to suffer then it's TOOL all way. The tempo of the music, the ebb and flow just works to motivate me to find that extra level.
@wxheather I usually stick to stuff I have already heard otherwise I get too distracted wanting to save the song or add it to a playlist. Today I’m listening to Low which is the best of both I know it but I also just found them so it’s nice
@kittenloaf Ha, this is true! I have already had to stop my work to google a couple of songs and artists today.
@wxheather This looks like the perfect playlist. Thanks for sharing! I’m plugging into this tomorrow at work.
@wxheather have none in return at the minute, but thank you so much for this recommendation!
@wxheather I usually rather have quiet when reading or writing, but I do have a playlist I made up of all instrumental stuff. If I can't get quiet, sometimes I'll put that on. I appreciate it when drawing as well.
For #programming and #reading, I have the Brandenburg Concertos.
But for #writing, I have a special playlist (like an OST) for every story I write. The songs I pick for it match the scenes I come up with.
@wxheather Great question. My preference is to listen to the Classical Station or film scores (e.g. Hans Zimmer) on Apple Music during times in the day where I must concentrate. Lyrics tend to break my focus when reading code or documentation. Surprisingly, when I am debugging an issue or writing code, lyrics do not bother me, so I usually listen to alternative rock then.
@wxheather i have created this playlist for work. It's probably not everyones cup of tea, but it helps me relax.
@wxheather It’s a bit of an acquired taste but lately I have just been putting on any Macroblank album that has an interesting cover. Like: https://youtu.be/22VFPZVN3tQ
@wxheather My musical tastes are pretty random. I've got a huge number of albums on my computer, everything from Beethoven to Yes and Billy Joel to Willie Nelson. 😀
