It appears to me is two edged. For the one hand it (apparently) sprouted from community auto-regulation and flagging, from a struggle to discern and make consciouss assesment of discourses. For the other, online platforms and political agendas reappropiated it as a way of sensoring "sensible content". Both must be carefully thought from a critical perspective.

A key difference of the later is a central authority deciding upon content and information "appropiateness". And sensible is disguising it as "Community guidelines" such as Youtube's.
