US politics, sex work

The US's continuing hatred of any sex that can't be used to sell movie tickets to white boys is back in force yet again.

Not to beat a dead fucking horse, but the whole, "get rid of niche sexual practices like fandom and kink on major cultural hubs" thing was and is only a stepping stone to enforcing sexual repression on as many people as possible.

The more repressed people are, the more easily oppressed they are.

@zenolalia Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Et al are under no requirement to support anything. There is no freedom of speech on these platforms and no protection for artists of any kind.

Although they are certainly online cultural hubs, they are companies that provide a service (Typically for free to you and I) and have the right to decide what is and isn't on their platforms.

That is why things like Mastodon are very important- in a federated network there is no one who's in control and actual speech and cultural exchange can occur without a single entity deciding if they do or don't want a particular subject matter on their platform.

I do not believe the change in TOS on places like Tumblr is about repressing or oppressing people. I think it's about money.

US politics, sex work,

@Surasanji Sorry, sometimes I forget that not everyone lives in my head and I don't adequately contextualize my statements.

The changes in TOS on major cultural hubs are coming on the tail of FOSTA/SESTA, which makes these hubs liable for crimes committed by their users. The decision to ban content is financially incentivized specifically by this legislation.

And, like most legislation that creates crimes out of consensual activities among adults (because for all their touting about FOSTA stopping trafficking, it only actually stops consensual sex work), it's a tool used to control people.

Tumblr, facebook and so on are not trying to control people. They're just trying to make money and not be sued.

Rather, the government bodies that created the legislation prompting this behaviour are trying to control people.

And, given the US's increasingly rapid descent into outright fascism, are succeeding in doing so.
