This gets worse-
Event advertiseed on twitter
How can charities and community organisations build effective and safe online communities?
Event hosted on 'zoom' and one of the communities is on Facebook
So how can we counter this, and put some ideas together using free tools, and federated communities to achieve the same thing. ?
Good point
I am in the process of making people aware of alternatives.
I also want to run my own online stuff if possible using free tools, e.g bigbluebutton for example.
I am also directing people to here.
I am working on a presentation for mastodon on Overleaf
@ourdiaspora
Further to the previous reply, thanks for these links and pointers, mastodon.org,uk will be useful and MIT unhangouts looks interesting too.
@zleap
The free software programmers cannot be expected to promote the concept of freedom software; they do not have the marketing skills and budget compared to the corporates. Freedom software advocates have to contact people and explain awareness of alternatives. In this case, have you contacted the event organisers to make them aware of 'Mastodon', 'Diaspora', 'Jitsi', 'MIT Unhangouts', etc.?
