@ademalsasa I can't switch from WhatsApp since I never used it, because I'm one of the few who read the EULA when WhatsApp was brand new. I use #XMPP since I got my first Android in 2011 & never looked back. To reach iOS users though I still do a mix of SMS, Telegram & E-Mail via DeltaChat until XMPP is fully useable for iOS users.
@STP_KITT same here I also never used #WhatsApp I am very lucky for that. Thanks for sharing with me, Kit.

@ademalsasa @STP_KITT I never used #WhatsApp, too. Also, I never used #Skype and #Viber.
To use #XMPP (aka #Jabber), you do not need the same-name site. You just need a #messenger (examples of XMPP-only messengers: #Gajim, #Psi; an example of multi-protocol messenger: #Pidgin) and some XMPP #provider (there are a lot of them around; you can even setup your own XMPP #server).
@gamliel @ademalsasa Yes, that's one of the advantages. Btw the old term Jabber is discouraged to use still, the XSF just wants it to be called XMPP. Pidgin is also very much behind XMPP developments so for PC operarting systems better use Gajim or maybe Dino.
> the old term Jabber is discouraged to use still
I would just name it #XMPP, but the #Jabber word seems more memorable for native English speakers, is not it?
> better use Gajim
It does not seem very rational to have special #messenger for each #communication protocol I use. #Pidgin supports not only XMPP, but also #IRC and many other communication protocols. It is almost universal, but for #text only, unfortunately not for VoIP.

I think we need to find a way to really push these bridges, their advantages and the advantages of these communities by allowing us to get the job done. As in we have a project and by using these tools , we can complete it.
@zleap @gamliel @ademalsasa Problem is those bridged will never be perfect & the potential for issues is even higher currently while all the different IM services/protocolls are constantly evolving.
