The way I see it there are 2 options on blocking

Individuals have the power to decide who they block (and also unblock)

Someone else decides for you. which will probably never be 100 percent perfect.

Federation is empowering, kin the right hands that is a very good thing surely.

It's always good to have options at your disposal, the problem is when options become defaults.

I'm talking to the people the run the instances and the individuals using them. Ask yourselves if blocking or ignoring information that you don't like is the right thing to do.

I respect peoples right to post sexualised images, i would rather keep that off my stream.

I just suggested hide media on by default to protect new users, who may not immediately know how to turn that on or off.

I was thinking of that as more of a safety feature.
