@dsfgs

I have written a short article for my local community magazine thing.

This is 317 words, max is about 330, however once we are happy with this.

pad.disroot.org/p/FediverseRis

I would to get this in well before the Dec 13th Deadline as it can then hopefully go in to the January issue.

I am trying to keep this at a level for the avg (non technical) person to read, but not shy away from some of the terminology associated with the fediverse.

@zleap
Again (and publically), great work zleap on this #Fediverse article for the newbie.

You did a lot of the heavy lifting to get this article started, with others joining in.

Its concise but to the point.

Anyone printing this should be able to fit two or three copies to an A4 page, if they use columns wisely.

Well done and thanks again!

Thanks for this, These articles usually go in on about 1/2 a5 size page, plus a logo, I am including the mastodon logo with this.

Should be able to get this in well before the 13th December, so thank you to everyone for your help, feel free to use the article more widely too lets make 2022 and not the year of the Metaverse

@zleap
On an A5 with columns you can likely fit two images, one small, one medium. Plus a small icon with your photo.

The editor likes my content as it is different to what everyone else sends in, it is also pretty varied too.

@zleap
Its a nice publication, if we can be honest margins could be better in a few spots (top and bottom of article espeically and a few other things here and there, like, three columns to each page would probably work well.

Have developers taken over council like they have here? The waxxing about regenerated carparks, vibrancy and "affordable housing" tipped us off.

The magazine is a delight — Paigntontly Perfect in Every Way®. Haha (You get that a lot, right?)

@dsfgs

We have an old carpark / shopping centre in Paignton (crossways) that has been pretty much out of use for a decade or more. One cafe and cancer research shop left.

The council could not do anything as the owners would not sell or move, the local post office were objecting to something too. This has all Finally been sorted so the demolition can start and a fresh building, housing etc can replace it.

@zleap
Okay. Hopefully it actually does do a positive thing. Too often when developers have controlled things we've end up with human filing cabinetry, unsafe developments (see #CrackingUp) slumlords and many different forms of illness arise from it. Not to mention the loss of charm and restorative benefits from having character and craftsmanship on display in the built environment.

@zleap
One thing we did notice about the UK which we sort of liked was there is no state govt, you have the govt and councils, this is good when it means that councils have a real meaningful impact on how places develop. In #Australia StateGovts have been absorbing this power and it has lead to a lot of corruption here by #lobbyists and #politicalDonations.

Councils occur here but do not exist as useful entities anymore.

@dsfgs

Yes we can elect local councils which is a good thing, well mostly. Still a battle for funding and how much actual control they have.

@zleap
Is this pun used every other day, "Paignton the Town Red (and green) this Christmas."
