Generation Isolation: Post pandemic young people retreating to their bedrooms

I think this is interesting as we know that phones are designed to be addictive and social media / Big Tech is also designed to keep you coming back and reward you for doing so.

@zleap also in many parts of England young people do not feel safe on the streets and with good reason due to the risk of casual violence, and if they hang around in "unsuitable" places they get trouble from cops. There's also paradox that compared to my youth a *lot* more effort is put into discouraging youth from experimenting with recreational drugs, whilst the addictive qualities of big tech are tolerated as "less worse"...

I agree with this, it is a conundrum not sure if fedi can make a difference, even if that is small

We need to make streets safer so people can go out to groups and feel safe doing so.

@zleap currently there are not as many teenagers on Fedi, some users actively discourage them due to large amount of LGBT+ folk on here and (understandable!) fears of being judged as a "predator" in conservative theocratic communities / countries (particularly some states of USA!) OTOH in Germany there are initiatives for youth such as Die Jugend Hackt, although these do of course target the well educated, more tech aware youth. Youthzone idea is good (but similar to 1980s Council youth clubs?)
