Just learned about this thing called “tech shame”. let me say that nobody cares or judges if your PC is slow. We’ve dealt with modem speeds, YouTube buffering for minutes, images loading row by row. Don’t let that get in the way of your work. Someone shames you ask for a raise.

@djlink I wonder if those who tech shame are volunteering to buy new, faster more modern hardware ...

Thought not.

My current Desktop must be at least 10+ years old, it runs Debian, runs fine, so why do i need to update it and add more e-waste to the mountain that already exists.

@zleap
The only computer that is "younger" than a decade at my place is the phone I'm typing this on. Which is a cheap phone, but I still consider it too powerful. Do I have to be ashamed of my dual Xeon Mac Pro or my even more dated dual G5 Power Mac? These machines are legends!
To be honest, I thought this was a joke first, but maybe I just don't get most of Gen Z 🤷

@m0xee @djlink I agree, my netbook is 10+ years old, works fine, I can type this message on it, and other software works fine too. As with the desktop it can be slow at times. I think I have fixed the issue with my desktop, the wired network is very slow, so I just switched over to a wifi adapter yesterday properly, and disabled the wired connection.

I think there could be more to gen-z than what is being reported, maybe some people are so used to getting the latest tech, clothing, could be an narcisstic trait that they feel they need to show something off.

If we are happy with what we have, who cares what others think.
