I had an e-mail from the goodthingsfoundation earlier, they are a UK charity, who are trying to help bridge the digital divide.

As you would expect they are only on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. I have e-mailed back to suggest they join the fediverse as by diversifying they may reach people who may not want to be on mainstream social media. Also pointed out and asked them if they are actually aware of what is happening on Twitter.

Hopefully they will get back to me, but It does seem that new users need help being here, Online centres and those who help people get online can play a key role in helping people use the fediverse.

If we can help them be on here, then they can help others get here too, and stick around long enough to be able to make the most of being here. Granted not everyone will stay, but hopefully we won't lose people.

In the mean time I really encourage people to ask about support for using the fediverse, even if they are experienced here, if we can create some sort of demand by people keep mentioning the fediverse, then slowly things will change at the grassroots level, and we can get out of the idea that the only services out there are those by Microsoft, facebook, google, and that there are other ways to use the Internet.

That support could simply be then available should friends want to join but you may not have time or availability to provide that support, they can be signposted to the UK online centres etc for help.
