I know there is a push to get more girls to study computer science, at Code Club I have a mix of boys and girls. I just run a club, so don't do anything special or different. Attendees just work on what they are working on.
What I find frustrating is the lack of help, I tried to contact a company I met at a jobn fair to invite them to a STEM group (that I also run) to talk about opportunities or what they do as a training company, I got no reply.
So if industry wants people it really does need to support grass roots. People at the grass roots level are doing their best, but could do with support. I feel more confident with Sciences than coding.
How can we encourage more girls to take up STEM generally and as coding is a big part of that.
Girls are interested, just a case of reaching out to them and letting them know about contests such as #YH4F, so they have space to code, collaborate etc.
What part can the Fediverse play in this. ?
