Wistman’s Wood, Dartmoor (from the edge - don’t go in, to preserve rare ferns & lichens)
Ah i have heard about this, I am in Devon too, Dartmoor is really nice.
Dartmoor is my favourite place. Wistman’s had been over-visited in recent years, sadly…..
This is the price paid by publicity, I can understand why the landowner elsewhere on dartmoor wants permision sought before camping, even responsible campers would not want to damage anything.
I’m afraid I disagree about the Darwell case. I know that area. Wild campers are not the same campers as those who park near roads & leave their trash everywhere
I appreciage what you are saying. There seems to different groups of people, proper wild campers who are responsible and another group who just leave rubbish everywhere and cause damage. You only have to look at that Dorset beach during the lockdowns to see the mess people left behind.
It seems a difficult balance for landowners, especially during lambing season for example, some dog owners seem to be pretty awful at following simple ideas such as pick up after your dog or keep dogs under control on a lead.

If the former make a mistake they own up to it and say sorry, the latter group play the victim. blame everyone else.
The change needs to start with very young children and parenting, which then gets accusations of 'nanny state' the rot set in decades ago when kids were allowed to get away with things, this then escalated, those kids became adults, had children and brought their kids up with the wrong attitude.
I remember at school we were TOLD the class was doing say litter picking around the site, no if's or buts you got on with it, like it or not.
Now that breaches their human rights,
