#Tár got me grappling with the idea of cancel culture. Well not exactly: cancel culture is not a thing, that’s a made-up term for excusing awful behavior. But it got me asking, do we need art from awful people? And my answer is, we need art from all kinds of people. But maybe we can have the art without showering the awful in riches. I think it’s reasonable for say the Oscar’s to adopt a code of conduct, and if you violate it your ineligible for the award.

Surely it is also about getting the right balance, who decides if a comment is bad or how bad it is.

Having views or ideas is great, having these challenged is also good, critical thinking is essential Accepting that you need to keep some things to your self is equally as important,

Do we really need to share every single opinion or view, knowing when to speak up or shut up is perhaps a good skill to teach and learn.
