Purely from a Physics view point, as this astronaut is not actually tethered, if the astronaut fired that device, would they be propelled backwards as they are in space?

@zleap i have to dig this a bit. Railguns and recoil are tricky, because of how they operate. Mostly I want to say that yes, purely due to conservation of momentum.
