"Donald Trump has already begun to identify by name and threaten witnesses, prosecutors, family members, and judges in the criminal prosecution now underway against him in Manhattan. This is not surprising for him. ...

Nothing Trump does is shocking anymore. But it is literally unthinkable that a former president would put private citizens at risk."

I am not sure about US law, but in the United Kingdom you are not allowed to "identify by name and threaten witnesses, prosecutors, family members, and judges " If I understand it this wpuld be seen as contempt of court (among other things), if Trump does not keep his mouth shut, he could, if US law is similar to ours, end up with those charges laid against him, regardless of if he is guilty / not guilty of the hush money charges.

If there are any lawyers on here who could clarity the position here it may be of interest to people generally.

@zleap I would hope this is prohibited by US law, too. If not, it surely should be. An effect of the Trump-era deluge against law and truth is that one begins to doubt what one once thought one knew — including basic facts about the law.

@zleap @wdlindsy it would turn on whether his speech was express enough to be considered a threat. Trump is pretty good at walking right up to the line, but not stepping over it.
