Today in 1885, after the end of the North West Resistance at the Battle of Batoche, Louis Riel surrenders himself.
His trial for treason will begin on July 20, and he will be sentenced to death on Aug. 1.
He is put to death by hanging in Regina on Nov. 16, 1885.
