This is amazing, and frustrating. The City of Barcelona eliminated 3 lanes of vehicle traffic & converted this street into a 4.7km green pedestrian corridor in the heart of the Eixample grid. Businesses sued, and eventually won in court. Then the businesses admitted they like it. citylabbcn.org/the-legal-attac

@BrentToderian Reminds me of a couple decades ago when every restaurant and bar was insisting they'd go broke if indoor smoking were banned.

I don't smoke, but appreciate people do. Before the actual ban came in, I proposed that my local rugby club ban smoking in doors on a sunday, which is when we have junior games. The club implemented this. But the ban was to protect kids from passive smoking.

I think people did understand, a few years later the actual ban came in anyway.

Sometimes a compromise was needed but one based on other than I just object to smoking.

I am sure a lot of businesses gained from this as it attracted customers and some stayed longer. I didn't want to be in the rugby club bar watching and England game breathing in carcinogenic smoke.
