We know hitler survived WWI, prior to WWI germany was powerful nation, the war decimated the Army and I think post war there were some limits imposted by other countries on how big the army of germany could be ( I need some help here)
So I think Hitler vowed to rebuild his country.

@zleap Germany was paying reparations after WW1.
This was widely seen as a cause for WW2 and after WW2 (West) Germany did not have to pay any reparations and instead received aid to rebuild the economy.
