People have been discussing how there is an unusual amount of war, fascism, and corruption in 2023. Yup, that's true. But something else too.
COP28 in Dubai showed us that oil companies and oil producing countries will fight the real solution to climate change, which is to stop using fossil fuels as quickly as possible, any possible way then can. They will not be part of the solution and must be pushed into it by governments, which must be pushed into it by us. Meanwhile corrupt, incompetent regimes like the Tories in the UK pass laws that if you hold up a sign that says STOP OIL, you will be arrested.
Clearly they are afraid of a climate focused groundswell. Now is the time to give it to them.
There are many other similar local laws throughout the world. For those who live in the US states that have made abortion illegal, what specifically are you doing about that that involves some personal sacrifice or risk?
The only thing that will stop Bibi Netanyahu's Isreal from killing Palestinians is if Israelis start refusing in large numbers to serve in the military or to bomb civilians. Hundreds are already doing that and more will join. Netanyahu survived months of enormous demonstrations against his takeover of the judiciary and he is still trying to take it over in order to conceal his own corruption and avoid prison under the cover of war.
Didn't President Bill Clinton dodge the draft and refuse to serve in Vietnam? He felt the war was wrong. For that, he got a lot of abuse and criticism from different groups. If Israelis refuse to serve as they object to what is happening in Gaza, they need to be perhaps called conscientious objectors rather than cowards. Draft dodgers , criminals etc.
