Israel-Gaza Conflict: February 10-11 (Recap)

1️⃣ EU foreign policy chief Borrell has joined leaders warning against the Israeli offensive on #Rafah, saying it would “lead to an unspeakable humanitarian catastrophe and grave tensions with #Egypt”.

2️⃣ “No choices remain” as 1.9 million Palestinians sheltering in densely populated Rafah receive evacuation orders, reports Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum in Rafah.

3️⃣ The head of the #WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, says the reported Israeli detention of health staff and patients at al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis is “extremely concerning”.

4️⃣ #US Senator Sanders says military aid for Israel ‘unacceptable’ amid fears of Rafah catastrophe. “Does Congress really want to provide more military aid to Netanyahu so that he can annihilate thousands and thousands more men, women and children?”

5️⃣ Ireland’s foreign minister has condemned Israel’s planned assault on Rafah, warning it is certain to entail “grave violations of international humanitarian law.” “It is absolutely clear that a military operation in Rafah, which has effectively now become one of the largest and most overcrowded refugee camps in the world, would entail grave violations of international humanitarian law,” Micheál Martin said.

6️⃣ Irish MEP Clare Daly has called for an emergency conference of the EU Council to demand an immediate ceasefire in #Gaza and prevent the “murderous onslaught” facing one million Palestinians in Rafah. Daly, said it has been clear since the start of the war that Israel’s “end game was the permanent destruction of the Gaza Strip”

7️⃣ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin #Netanyahu has asked the Israeli army to again recruit reservists for the planned Rafah ground operation.

At least 28,064 people including more than 11,500 children, have been killed and over 67,611 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The revised death toll from the October 7 attack in Israel stands at 1,139.

There is no point warning of anything when Israel won't listen, doesn't want to listen and has a wider agenda.

Time for the political class to STOP talking and time to take action. What is the death toll up to now 28,000 people, some may be hamas, the rest are men, women and children (most of whom were not even BORN when Hamas took power, and many of those are too young to vote, even if they were able to)

It is NOT anti semetic to critisize Ireal over this, and they need to be TOLD TO STOP, but that is not enough say there WILL be dire consequences if this carries on. The ICC and ICJ need to put something in place to hold those who are empowering isreal to carry on to account. This includes Rishi Sunak.

We need to stop both anti semitism and islamaphobia, take a tough stance on both. Otherwise we are just storing up hatred until it explodes again.

What happened on October 7, was horrific and can never be condoned, the respon se is even more horrific and can't be condoned either or hidden behind self defence.

If this new operation takes place it will be a MASSACRE. 1.2 million people will be displaced (well perhaps a few 1000 survivors), probably out of the state of Palestine.

Then what, West Bank, we are seeing evidence of targeting of Palestinians, so is that next, will THOSE people be bombed in to submission too.

How are the west sitting by and allowing clear violations of international law to take place, while if this happened anywhere else (Iran, China Russia, Myanmar) it is strongly condemmed. double standards.

@zleap @faab64 Similar to prison rules: if you warn your opponent you just give them notice to set up on you. That's why rapists in prison get shanked without warning.

I am used to dealing with deterrable enemies but Israel is not deterrable so warnings may be pointless.
