So it looks like a lot of people from #Tumblr are joining the #Fediverse. Welcome, Tumblr people! Here are some things I picked up after arriving during the Twitter influx.

Follow @FediTips. They post lots of helpful tips for new users.

You don't have to use #Mastodon. #Sharkey and #Akkoma are more similar to Tumblr, but you can follow a Mastodon acccount with a Sharkey account, and vice versa. That's the power of the Fediverse.

If you post a picture, add some descriptive #AltText for the benefit of blind and visually impaired users.

If you use a multi-word hastag, use #CamelCase (← like that) rather than all lowercase. Again, this makes things easier for screen readers to parse.

Timelines are in chronological order and there are no relevancy algorithms. To find cool people, search some hashtags you're interested in, or check out the Local and Federated timelines.

The Local timeline is all posts from people on your own instance.

The Federated timeline is all posts from people who are followed by at least one person on your instance.

If you think your post might be distressing to others, it's a good idea to use a content warning so people don't need to see it.

Please don't complain if black people choose not to use a content warning when discussing racism they have experienced.
