Trump, post-election thread 🧵

"After Iowa was called for Trump Tuesday night, his campaign released a statement gloating about the win—and calling out the gold-standard pollster by name.

“Starting on Day 1 President Trump and Vice President JD Vance will help to ease costs, secure the border, and protect Social Security for retirees like Ann Selzer,” the statement said. "

Trump is now the first convicted felon to become president, and has the authority to dismiss special counsel Jack Smith, who was appointed by AG Merrick Garland specifically to investigate Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election and lead the January 6 insurrection, as well as his mishandling of classified documents.

Trump has already threatened to not just fire Smith, but have him deported.

"Mr Rahmani said that if Smith refuses to dismiss the case, Trump can simply get rid of him, as he has pledged to do already.

“I would fire him within two seconds," Trump said during a radio interview in October."

2. Classified documents case: Judge Cannon dismissed saying Smith was improperly appointed. It is under appeal, which likely gets dropped..

3. The Georgia election case. This is attempts to overturn the election. This case will likely be put on hold for the time he is president

In 2020, 81 million people voted Biden (D) and 74 M voted for Trump.

It looks like in 2024 about 67.8 M people voted Harris and 72.5 M for Trump (both as counted so far, which was Nov. 6 @ 3pm).

UPDATES (#s from CNN, all M):
Nov 8: Harris 69.5 - Trump 73.5.
Nov 9: 70.2 - 74.1
Nov 10: 70.9 - 74.5
Nov 11: 71.1 - 74.7
Nov 18: 73.8 - 76.4
Nov 24: 74.48 - 76.98
Dec 22: 75.02 - 77.30

Voter turnout 63.5%. Comparable to past numbers (2020 had 65 and was high water mark). See en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_

Interestingly, I was watching the numbers and although the Democrats usually come out the gate with a lot of mail-in ballots, Kamala was around 8 million votes behind at the beginning. So she made up to 5 million below Trump. Interesting.

Looks like this was the Democrats' election to lose. Trump was down to only 2 million votes.

You can see Trump actually got FEWER votes this round than last.

Jill Stein received around 628,129 votes. You can make of that what you wish.

States are mostly won or lost with under 200k votes. Sometimes much less.

Example of the big swing state, Pennsylvania, and a nice narrow race in Wisconsin.

Congresswoman Maria Salazar (R):
"The Trump administration is not going to be deporting the people who have been here more than 5 years, who have families." Etc.

PBS interviewer:
Have you received those kinds of assurances from the administration?

(Just for ref she's against abortion. Voted against impeachment for Jan 6, against removing healthcare but wants more free market, against normalizing relations with Cuba, supports Javier Milei)

The other day I heard that Putin wasn't going to congratulate Trump because the countries were still unfriendly.

Today Orban has congratulated Trump and suggested that the war in Ukraine will end shortly.

Now, I just heard that Putin has, in fact, congratulated Trump and said he was a very brave man to have survived the assassination attempt.

Even the theater we get is garbsge and low IQ.

Oh please now Trump says he wants to end the war because he's all about saving lives. Oh please.

Jd Vance is saying draw the boundaries where everybody is now and there would be a neutral zone.

Putin is saying we should consider the idea. Just the other day he was saying he wasn't going to congratulate Trump because the US was attacking him.

All in one day? This happened in one day?? Are you kidding me. This is ridiculous. This would be thrown out as a Netflix show plot.

Here it's the new show on Netflix called "We're Not in Cahoots."

It's a show about two people who are definitely in cahoots, but of course they're desperate to maintain to the outside world that they are not in cahoots.

You can watch all the crazy hijinks as they come up with insane explanations for how they appear to be working together but, as they always say at the end of each episode:

We
Are
Not
In
Cahoots

(Wink)

(Fade to.black)

I didn't realize before the election was even over they were defending Musk.

Makes sense. These people are not hiding anything.

Kremlin: "The messaging about peace favourably distinguishes him (Trump) from the incumbent."

The Trump team isn't signing the background check forms that the incoming team usually signs during the transition.
