I just got an email from my son’s teacher saying she had to take his chromebook away because he’s found a way to disable the software the school district uses to monitor their chromebook use
I also learned his school had to stop using some quiz software because he taught all his friends to go into the web inspector and cheat
As a parent, am I suppose to be upset with this? Because a 12yo going on github and looking for backdoors in software shows real initiative... I am awfully proud
Indeed, he should be asked to write about what he has done and how the system could potentially be improved, ohh and signed on to a bug bounty programme so he can earn money finding other bugs in the system.
I am on your side with this, as if someone finds a problem with the system, they can help rather than be punished.
I was at college back in the late DOS days, the non networked computers would not allow me to type shell in to gwbased, however the networked computers would allow me to type shell and get a dos prompt, I did report the issue as I saw a potential for abuse.
I was 17/18 at the time, so perhaps being a little older gave me that extra sensibility to report, a lot of people would have found a way to probably exploit the system.
