Yow, just ran across video of Elon’s Nazi Salute episode and no, he wasn't caught in an unfortunate position, he Sieg Heil’ed to the front of the stage and then turned 180° and Sieg Heil’ed the lucky people in that direction. It was explicitly Nazi and any news organization that doesn’t describe it as such is committing severe malpractice.

I think even if it is this roman salute,* it is just not acceptable or professional to do this, he is the CEO of several companies acting like a immature moron.

If one of his emplyees did this, and embarrassed the company they would probably be sacked.

Making a salute like either, may not actually be a sackable offense, what would be is bringing a company in to disrepute, either way there would be disciplinary action taken.

I would not expect the media to understand anything other than the fact it is a good thing what he has done, it generates clicks and income, that is all they care about.

Professional journaliam and investigative reporing died ages ago.

@zleap @timbray Indeed. The original Nazi Salute is originally a Roman salute. That's why there's no way to make a purely Roman salute any more. You cannot do that salute without the Nazi context. In the same vein, you wouldn't spray a swastika onto a synagogue and then claim that you were just spreading an old Indian symbol of luck.

Exactly, this is why conversations like this are important it allows us to examine the issue deeper, for example I was not aware of the Roman salute before this, so I have learned a few things from the conversation.

I just hope people see what is going on.

@jkanev @zleap @timbray

The "technically a Roman salute" defense belongs in the same trash compacter as "technically ephebophilia" and "technically not rape according to the statute of the state of NY"

But supposing it's a Mussolini-style fascist salute instead of a Hitler-style fascist salute. OK, whatever, follow your leader, Elon.
