If you're visiting Glasgow, or live here and want to take advantage of the sunshine to get to know it a bit better, my book Glasgow Uncovered is here to help. I've just dropped off a new batch at Bigglestones Books on Glassford Street in the city centre, so you can pick one up today and head out to explore the city. Just remember the sunscreen (it's not very often you have to say that in Glasgow!)

@thisismyglasgow I was at a concert at the "Ovo" last night and the sound was terrible. Is that venue known for bad accoustics? I am wondering if it was that, or an incompetent sound technician? The hall is circular and all sound below a certain frequency just muddied up into an indistinct rumble.
Doobie Bros have been touring a long time, surely they have good tech people?

@LillyHerself That is an interesting question. Personally, I've never had any problems with the acoustics in the Hydro and really like it as a music venue. However, enough other people have reported the problems you describe to suggest that there are some real issues. I've never been able to work out why it's a problem for some people and not others. The position in the auditorium doesn't seem to make a difference, or the band playing.

@LillyHerself Oh, sorry, yes they are. The building is called the Hydro, Ovo are just an energy company that sponsor it. 👍🙂

@thisismyglasgow I was disappointed in the level of alcohol consumption. Contrast with Van Morrison at the Concert Hall - he gave instructions that the bars would close at 10 mins before the concert's start, and remain closed.
I had to stand up to let people pass at least 8 times during the concert, so they could go and buy more booze. They didn't even have the courtesy to wait to do this btw songs. One couple in my row arrived first after the 3rd song, carting 4 glasses of beer & left early.

@thisismyglasgow The question is, why pay up to £120 for a concert ticket if the people next to you are not there for the music?
Of course, the venue - they make lots of money off of the alcohol sales. I wonder if the band gets a take of that bit at all?

I think back in the 60s The Beatles' made more money from concerns etc, then sales of albums & Singles due.

I think todays artitsts still want better deals from their record companies, so I guess nothing has changed that much.

I know income tax law, has some clause or something in it, that refers to the beatles, to address how they managed to avoid some of the income tax, but they were on a very high tax rate at one point, hence the "One for you 19 for me", reference in Taxman.

@zleap The Doobie Bros are from the USA, where rich people pay practically no tax at all.
