And people keep falling for these scams, we should conclude META is a scam.
It is now designed to be addictive, as people are not taught to use critical thinking, they don't ask the critical thinking questions as to what is happening.
But if you look at what the basic computer courses offer it is very big tech centred, there is no basic courses that cover free software, or decentralised social media, even the tutors are Social media = Facebook, you can contact old school friends ( a postive thing ) no mention of course, of the school bully that make your life hell.
There are people who say don't give smart phones to under 16s, this may sound a good idea, but what about Apps for services such as banking, or gohenry which is designed to track money, rewards, and spending, helping kids become money confident.
Kids understand this stuff better than their parents, so when parents try and explain about e-safety, they may not be that effective or ask the right questions.
To understand when things go wrong ypu need to understand something on a deeper level. e.g cambridge analytica, massive for data protection and yet people just didn't see a connection and just carried on.
Then when it is their kids, who are harmed they sit up and listen, by then it is too late.
Ok 2nd reply here, Just watching a bbc news article about vaccine take up, I don't think they are mentioning social media as a factor for lower take up but we know it is, we know antivaxxers et al are common place on mainstream social media. So not only do people feed social media, they also consume news and other facts (or nonsense in some cases) from social media. This is also just as worrying in many cases.
Not sure how many people have passed all the requirements for a job, been offered a job pending social media search, then been turned down. We dom't hear about that, we do hear the warnings though.
