Let’s see, how long has the #beaglebone existed?! A while. So … any is there still a vendor kernel for such an old chipset, from such an old and established vendor?

This is the simplest question in #OpenSource right now. There are of course other questions, but I think we should start with the simple ones.

Welp, guess the new CNC is taking a bit of a detour... Going to try getting #LinuxCNC going on the #BeagleBone Black, using a Xylotex BareBonesCNC cape attached to the cheapo parallel port controller that came with the setup. Grumble!

While surfing the wilds of new #SBCs, I stopped by #BeagleBone, saw they had two (2!) new boards and went to look

#BeagleV-Fire: beagleboard.org/boards/beaglev

Reading the specs, I was pretty sure I either suffered a random bout of brain damage or I was hallucinating, then I got to Storage where I recognized some of the words. Not all of them, but some. So that was fun.

#BeagleV-Ahead: beagleboard.org/boards/beaglev

I am not brain damaged and that is how to organize new (to me) hardware words.

This might be a way to provide a pre-configured kali environment for users who insist on bringing Windows laptops to workshops.

I don't need a lot of extras, but my workshop currently runs best if the participant has a device providing DHCP. Also, I have USB wifi dongles that need drivers installed to complete a task in the #UAV communications module.

So maybe #Kali on #BeagleBone + RDP to handle those Windows users.

We bring a simple 'table top' #UAS.

1. #UAV : A #BeagleBone Blue attached to a quad frame running either ArduPilot or PX4. We exploit network services and misconfigured firmware update

2. #GCS : Android phone and gamepad joystick controller running QGroundController. We exploit vulnerable apps

3. COMMS: WiFi via the BB-Blue access point. We crack #WiFi password and sniff #MAVLink off the air

The subtext is to demonstrate vulns in each of these subsystems and how you can use those to pivot from one to another.

Our audiences have varied from vendor sales and mgmt at Xponential to much more technical folks at BlackHat. Gonna be challenged to make it interesting for the technically audience at #PX4. But many UAS software engineers haven't really been exposed to how cybersecurity folks think and test, so I hope they find that fun.

Announcing #Umbrella

mathr.co.uk/web/umbrella.html

A #compatibility #emulation layer for #Bela on #desktop #Linux using #JACK for #audio / #analog / #digital #IO instead of #hardware #sensors #electronics on the #embedded #BeagleBone device.

Very minimally tested so far, but 85 out of 100 #CPlusPlus #DSP examples (not including Csound, PureData, SuperCollider) do compile and link successfully.

Tested on Debian Bookworm, OS package dependencies not documented yet, but if you have an audio software development environment you probably have everything you need already.

Umbrella :: mathr

Compatibility layer for Bela on desktop Linux.

Apparently because I like this stuff ... I wrote a pretty complete autopilot flight control system for #arduino + #beaglebone along with ground station and other stuff. Then I decided hardware was hard so I ported it all to the #ardupilot ecosystem (just using their low level libs and build system) so I could run the system on commodity flight controllers. But no one in that community really gives a hoot because they already have all their own stuff. So I added a whole ton of functionality. Now it seems like a good idea to port it back to #arduino (running on a #teensy) and also move most of the beaglebone functionality down onto the teensy so it can run mostly standalone. My porting effort now compiles and reads the IMU ... next up I need to port all the gps changes back and get the EKF running. What does everyone else do for fun on a friday night, Lol?

Okay, screw this: if BB-GATEWAY is going to act like this---and what the everlovinghell is wrong with people not documenting literally anything? A DRAWING IS NOT DOCUMENTATION--I'm scrubbing to load the latest testing build of the OS.

I see why #BeagleBone boards are so easy to get and still pretty cheap. There's more documentation right this second on a single wifi package being added to the kernel than everything in the entire Beagle cottage industry.

Feel like right now is a good time to point out.... #beaglebone has always been a better (read: thought out) #SBC than @Raspberry_Pi IT HAS A FUCKING SERIAL CONSOLE! #orangepi is also doing some excellent work on a large variation of #SBC's to meet different needs.
