I see a thing about "subscribing" on my #mastodon profile now. don't we already have "following" what is this?
@2ck If for some reason you can't follow them you can subscribe to them (they won't get notified either) and see their public-only toots in one of your timelines/lists.
@trinsec thanks. I'm not sure I like that: I'd rather know when someone's keeping tabs on me, even if it is only public posts
@trinsec well, I didn't know about the RSS feed. I've just looked now, and I only see it from looking at the <link> tags in HTML.
I suppose I don't really mind since I make most of my posts to be public. Still, architecturally, I prefer the application to make subscription where both people know about it the easier option. Often, folks who are interested in me are interesting to me, so I like to follow back: I think that's typical on social media unless you're famous or something like that.
@2ck Some people don't really want to be followed and have locked accounts. Maybe for some reason or whatnot you can't subscribe to them the normal way. I dunno. Whatever it is, the feature's there in case you want it.
It's not a default Mastodon feature by the way. It's added here on qoto.
