@PawelK It's true. I remember rootkits the school used to spy on students. Easy to fill up that buffer and easy to kill that process by accident.
A teacher told me I couldn't do it so I did it. It just showed a malfunction on their screen and we both had a good laugh. I believe it used DRM controls to do some of the work. The system had to be restarted for the rootkit to load back in as it was just broken and not triggered. Perhaps it was later used to freeze the monitor program in the labs with the help of friends. Good times lol.
