@gav @AmpBenzScientist of course it makes them german. What made a bavarian "german" other than being pressured into a unity via war with france? German is an ethnicity.

@igelsQTs @gav I mean BMW makes them essentially German. Autobahn, Nuremberg and being prized by Eastern European criminals is the definition of a German Vehicle.

@AmpBenzScientist @gav all of these things became relevant far after unification. Before the 1870s a german was just whoever identified as such. Countries were just whichever monarch you served in that region. It was meaningless to use german as a nationality and monarchs fought against it as an identity for that very reason. The worst part of the name of the modern "germany" as a state is that it ruined this original meaning
