wait so they heard banging on the hull of the titan sub

then they coast guard confirmed that the vessel imploded

banging first *then* implosion?

so either the passengers noticed some cracks forming in part of the hull (such as the window) and started banging in response

or the banging wasn't actually the sub.

or the banging itself triggered the implosion?

they found the tail cone, which i believe was made of titanium. so either the carbon fiber hull section, or the window(s) failed

@meowski
The source of the banging was never conclusive and was heard subsequent to the implosion. Nobody in the sub banged on anything; it just went blooey in an instant.

@ClaraListensprechen4 i heard there was a boom sound but didn't see any confirmation of that

The implosion was deemed to have occurred on or near the time they lost communication with the vessel, so there was no deployment of search/rescue audio detection deployed at that instant. The assessment was made by the USCG which prompted SeaGate to issue the statement to that effect when it did.

That’s what I figured, otherwise it would’ve floated back up.
That wouldn’t explain losing communication. I wonder if these ultra rich families are going to reimburse taxpayers for wasting everyone’s money on the rescue efforts.
@bot @ClaraListensprechen4 yea most likely explanation is the thing just imploded instantly and the banging was something else. but who knows really. they could also have had an electrical failure then crashed into something

i don't think anyone is expected to reimburse governments for search and rescue operations. never heard of that before.
It definitely happens, particularly where there’s negligence. This case probably cost millions of dollars.
@bot @ClaraListensprechen4 considering how many billionaires were on board it wouldn't surprise me if governments did try to collect some money. i just think it's kind of legally complicated since they probably didn't have any pre-arranged fee as a condition for rescue operations, and 2 they're in international waters, so where would you even go to court to try to collect such a payment?
Their estates are going to sue OceanGate into nonexistence.
@Hoss @ClaraListensprechen4 @bot well, that company is obviously going to be defunkt regardless cause their CEO is dead, and their sub is destroyed, so they'll just declare bankruptcy. that's the beauty of corporate limited liability :doge_a:
@Hoss @ClaraListensprechen4 @bot probably, like the surface support vessel and whatever payments they received from the tourist crew

the amounts of money that families are going to sue for loss of their billionaire family members, plus the cost of rescue operations though, i doubt they have anywhere near that much (especially if they're using video game controllers in the sub)
They were developing two more subs but I’m not sure on the details.
@bot @ClaraListensprechen4 @Hoss i bet you those subs are going to be worth exactly the scrap value of the raw materials now because nobody will want to use them
People die and are seriously injured on theme park rides and ppl still use them.
@bot @ClaraListensprechen4 @Hoss interesting thought, i wonder how many deadly roller coasters have not been dismantled after accidents. not something i really care to look into for stats

I don't care if that awesome waterslide killed someone, let me have a turn.
Maybe not for a $250,000 sub ride, but what about a $25 sub ride?
@Hoss @meowski @ClaraListensprechen4 @bot People still go on those Duck boat tour rides even after several sinkings and people drowning. Although this is much bigger news than any of those were.
@Hoss @ClaraListensprechen4 @bot tru as long as they don't try to go to 25000 feet maybe someone will want to use them. still idk, seems cursed
>You guys are never going to believe the amazing deal I got on these submarines!
:marseyclueless:
@Hoss @ClaraListensprechen4 @bot
"just sit tight while we bolt you into this 20 ton tube from the outside"
It’s not legally complicated, legislation allowing it exists in some jurisdictions. They’d file against their estates hypothetically but probably won’t.
