Turns out you can write " : verified : " after your mastodon profile name, and voila! You have a blue check, very reasonably priced.

I usually block people with that in their icon list. It shows that they don't really understand the medium they're using. Whatever.

What made you think that ANY social media is different? The only difference here is that there aren't any algorythims here to shove controversial posts in your face, but otherwise humans are the same.
